Tornado rips through north Perth

Residents in Perth woke up to an enormous clean-up operation this morning after a tornado ripped through the north of the city.

Winds of more than 100 km/h uprooted trees and brought down powerlines in Morley and Dianella. The weather assault lasted less than 10 minutes, but left a lot of damage.

Security video shows a child in a high chair thrown across a cafe as the doors are blown off their hinges.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority received 80 calls for help, reported WA Today.

Power has since been restored to thousands of homes.

No one was seriously injured.
